Aloha! We are Brian and Maria Charnigo. Our mutual love of animals brought us together when we both worked at Sea World of Ohio, where we met in 1994. We were married in 1996. We each have a diverse background of experiences. We both like to go mountain biking, drive teams of horses, swim, snorkel, and care for animals. Brian is a PADI certified Divemaster. Brian plays several musical instruments, including the saxophone, guitar, and ukulele. Maria enjoys quilting, reading, and scrapbooking.

We are both special education teachers and began our careers teaching high school in the inner city of Toledo, Ohio. While in Toledo, Maria also worked at the Toledo Zoo. After six and a half years in Toledo, we moved around the globe to teach and live on the small Hawaiian island of Kauai. We both taught high school at the Westernmost High School in the United States for four years. During our time on Kauai, we participated in the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Ocean Counts. Kauai is an amazing place where we spent time kayaking, body boarding, surfing, snorkeling, swimming, hiking, and biking.
The Aloha spirit followed us back home to Ohio where our family resides. Once back in Ohio, we both attended John Carroll University and received Master’s degrees in School Counseling. We are both employed in the public schools as special education teachers. In addition, we both work for Spring Mist Farms. Once back in Ohio, our love of animals naturally led us to the idea of starting our own farm. This is when the idea for Aloha Farms became a reality.
