Percheron Draft Horses
Bud – gelded male, grey
Turvy – gelded male, grey
We use Turvy and Bud to work on the farm. Their biggest job is to haul and spread manure from all of the animals. We can also use them to plow fields when needed. Of course, they can also be harnessed up for fun wagon and hay rides around Aloha Farms! |
Belted Galloway Beef Cows
Tori – heifer
Ele – heifer
The Belted Galloway Cows have a distinct look. They are sometimes called the “Oreo Cow” due to their black hair with a white band around their middle. The Belties have long, fuzzy hair. Some visitors to our farm have been reminded of buffalo, panda bears, and teddy bears! They definitely look cuddly! |
Llamas
Lydia – female
Bandit – gelded male
| The llamas are important guard animals on our farm. They help protect our farm animals from predators. The llamas can make warning calls and they will attack a predator using their strong legs. We have witnessed our llamas giving warning calls and placing themselves between their goats and the possible threat. Lydia and Bandit also give us their soft, cozy wool every spring when they are sheared. |
Dairy Goats
Gaby – female Saanen
Milkshake – female Nubian
Fribble - female Nubian
| Our three girls are friendly and love to be scratched and petted. They are buddies with our llamas and alpacas and run together in the stall and pastures, along with the chickens! Milkshake is the mother of Fribble and gave birth to Fribble on Good Friday of 2009. |
Chickens
Leghorns – white eggs
Plymouth Barred Rocks – brown eggs
Rhode Island Reds – brown eggs |
We currently have around 45 laying hens and 1 rooster. During the day, the chickens enjoy roaming around the farm. They visit the horses, cows, llamas, and goats. They pick up any dropped feed and scratch around in the pastures. If they see us walking around, they all come running up in the hopes of some bread tossed to them. It is hilarious to see all of these chickens running out to greet you! In the evening, the chickens retire to their luxury coop in the back of the barn, while rooster makes sure all of his hens are safe. In their coop, they enjoy nesting boxes, a chicken ladder, and rafter perches. We close them in at night to keep them safe and to keep predators out. The chickens are fun to watch and provide delicious eggs! |
Barn Cats
Kukui - black
B.C. - black
Kukui and Wiki are the proud parents of B.C. and Malasada. We have since had all of our cats spayed/neutered. Our barn cats are a valuable part of our farm, as they are wonderful mouse catchers. Our cats are also very social and cuddly. They enjoy being held and petted. They follow us around during chore time and keep us company! |
House Cat
Bailey – black cat |
Bailey is our house cat. He would like to sit on your lap every time you sit down. Bailey does an excellent job of watching the birds that come to our feeders. He also keeps an eye on any chipmunks or squirrels on our farm. |
Dogs
Kayla – black lab
Winnie – yellow lab/golden retriever mix
Maisey - Golden Retriever
Our dogs are part of our family and live in the house with us. They weren’t born or raised with farm animals, but have adapted to them very well. At first, they barked at the animals all the time. Now they have a mutual respect for each other and are good neighbors to each other. The dogs share fence lines with the goats, llamas, and chickens. Winnie especially likes to chase the chickens that are walking that fence line. The animals like watching the dogs, especially when we are playing ball with them. |
